چکیده

Received 2 September 2003; revised 9 February 2004; accepted 7 May 2004 Fluorescence quenching of anthracene by aniline in five different solvents has been carried out at room temperature with a view to understand the quenching mechanisms. Experimental results show positive deviation in the Stern-Volmer plots in all the solvents studied. In order to interpret these results the ground state complex and sphere of action static quenching models have been invoked. Using these models various rate parameters have been determined. Ground state complex formation model is found not to be applicable. Using sphere of action static quenching model various rate parameters have been determined. The magnitudes of these parameters imply that sphere of action static quenching model agrees well with the experimental results. Hence, the positive deviation in the S-V plots is attributed to the static and dynamic quenching. Further, with the use of finite sink approximation model it has been observed that these bimolecular reactions are diffusion limited. The dependence of Stern-Volmer constant on dielectric constant of the solvents suggests the charge transfer character of the excited complex.

The effect of solvents of varying polarity on the absorption and fluorescence emission of the Schiff base, 2-{[3-(1H-benzimidazole-2-yl) phenyl]carbonoimidoyl}phenol, was studied using Lippert-Mataga bulk polarity function, Reichardt's microscopic solvent polarity parameter and Kamlet's multiple linear regression approach. The spectral properties follow Reichardt's microscopic solvent polarity ...

The fluorescence Quenching Study of Quinine in Presence of Some Anions

The quenching of quinine fluorescence intensity in the presence of some anions in aqueous solution at ambient temperature has been investigated. The quenching is found to be collisional or dynamical in nature. This study reveals the order of two groups of quencher: NaI > NaBr > NaCl > NaF and K2Cr2O7 > KMnO4 >Na2SO4 > NaClO3. Increasing anion size in the both groups leads to an  increase in the...

Excited state kinetics of anthracene-bridge-aniline intramolecular exciplexes.

We report on the synthesis and characterization of fluorescent halogen substituted anthracene-bridge-aniline (ABA) supermolecules that undergo structural reorganization on photoexcitation to form transient complexes. The syntheses were achieved in high yields on a large scale and the molecular structures were confirmed by single crystal X-ray diffraction. The photophysics of the ABA supermolecu...

Quenching of the Fluorescence of a Coumarin Derivative by Aromatic Amines

The effect of three aromatic amines namely aniline (AN), dimethyl aniline (DMAN) and diethyl aniline (DEAN) on emission properties of a coumarin derivative 6-methyl-3azidoacetyl coumarin (6M3AAC) in acetonitrile was studied by means of steady state fluorescence spectroscopy. The quenching of fluorescence intensity was observed in the presence of amines. The quenching process was characterized b...
